PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR

Reports to: Production Superintendent

Position Overview: The Production Supervisor supervises all aspects of plant production in a particular department and has overall responsibility for the timely production goals, within acceptable quality guidelines. This position is responsible for directing and supervising all plant employees in their department(s) and other workers related to production.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate the actual production and use of personnel within the department(s).

2. Act as a liaison between direct production employees and the Superintendents.

3. Accountable for methods, costs, materials and manpower utilization of all departments under his or her direction.

4. Continually monitor each department to determine if they are meeting standards of on-schedule production and quality.

5. Recommend, originate and implement changes in production methods to increase efficiency and reduce operating costs without jeopardizing customer service.

6. Work in conjunction with the employee relations department to communicate all company regulations and policies. Establish procedures to maintain morale, cooperation and harmony among all employees.

7. Assist all operators and laborers in the performance of their duties and responsibilities.

8. Supervise and insure proper safety standards and practices.

9. Maintain procedures which prioritize and expedite any product shortages or backorders.

10. Assist purchasing in the monitoring of all raw materials and finished goods to alert them to any shortages.

11. Responsible for training of all production employees in the safe and efficient operation of any equipment necessary to perform the daily functions in their positions

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum of five years of production supervisory experience, preferably in the wood products industry. This position requires familiarity with wood product related machinery and equipment.

This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and initiative. Strong problem solving, dispute resolution techniques are very important.

An employee in this position is expected to learn and maintain adequate computer related skills necessary to perform work assignments in an efficient manner.
